The workshop Gotschy is looking back on a long tradition. As early as the 1970s, Helmut Gotschy built his first instruments. Due to the high quality of the instruments, the demand was soon great enough for Gotschy to specialize in the construction of hurdy-gurdys. In 1987 the workshop was moved to Baden-Württemberg. Helmut Gotschy was the first hurdy gurdy builder to use preamplifiers (pickups) in his hurdy gurdys – today almost all instrument makers offer such a system.
In 2010 Gotschy handed over the workshop in the hands of his longtime colleague Alexandra Betz, who continues the workshop and the name.
