Step 3: Applying rosin

As soon as the trumpet string does not respond accurately anymore or the melody becomes too quiet and "throaty", it is time to apply new rosin.

Hold the rosin block against the wheel with a little pressure, then turn the wheel. To be able to control the successful application of rosin, it is important that the strings are "switched on" and are making contact with the wheel.

If you find there is too much rosin on the wheel, you can remove the rosin with very fine sanding paper (#600 - 1000 grit). To do this, first lift all the strings off the
wheel and lightly press the sanding paper onto the surface of the wheel. While turning the wheel, you will notice the resistance diminishing and the surface
getting even since you are removing the old rosin.

After this, you need to clean, "compress" and polish the wheel with a cotton or linen cloth. Turn the wheel and press the cloth firmly against the surface.

Now you can apply a small amount of new rosin. Use the cloth to polish the applied rosin into thesurface of wheel.

"Switch On" your strings and enjoy playing!
